LIBRARY
The NIOMR Library was created
along side with the Institute establishment in 1975 to cater for the
information needs of the Institute and its environment.
The Library supports the
institutes’ mandates by acquiring/providing relevant materials in form of
books journals and other similar information sources. It also designs,
publishes and disseminates the result of the institutes’ research findings
through the mechanism of the technical papers and reports. |

OBJECTIVES
- To build up relevant and adequate
collections and provide services for the implementation of resource
activities undertaken by the institute.
To provide and disseminate information on fishery and other relevant
related subjects to its users
To design and publish result of research findings emanating from the
institute.
SERVICES
The following
services are available and provided in the library.
1) Reader
Services – That is assisting readers to get their desired
information needs
2) Loans of books periodicals and reprints to NIOMR staff members
and occasionally to other interested clientele.
3) Inter – library loans to other libraries and from other libraries
especially when materials required is not available in NIOMR
library.
4)
Literature search for researchers.
5) Compilation of special bibliographies in areas of interest to
researchers
within and outside the institute.
6) Abstracting services
7) Indexing services
8) Photocopying services
9) Internet services
10)
Library exchange service between NIOMR and other related
libraries within
and abroad e.g UNESCO, FAO, ICLARM, IITA etc.

COLLECTIONS
The Library
collections has grown from 2,700 vols. Since its inception, in 1975 to
about 52.000 vols. presently, the collections are restricted to fisheries,
oceanography and Marine related disciplines. The subject coverage
includes:

USERS
The library use is restricted to NIOMR
staff. However students, lecturers, stakeholders and public members
working or interested in our area of research activities are allowed
to use the library on request.
STAFF
The library is equipped with adequate
manpower (professional and support) librarians, Documentation experts
and library assistants who are dedicated to their job responsibilities
and willing to serve.
